Sarah and Matt were married last Saturday at the gorgeous Board & Batten Events in Lexington, NC. Their wedding day was beyond perfect. I am so excited to share their love story and these images!
Sarah and Matt first met at a BBQ Festival on Tryon Street in the heart of Uptown Charlotte. As Sarah says “where the scents of smokers and homemade Carolina sauces lifted our hearts away. After meeting with overlapping friend groups, we laid eyes on each other for the first time. In addition to the immaculate offerings of BBQ, delicious sides of banana pudding and mac and cheese were shared amongst friends until we all decided to grab drinks at Connolly’s On Fifth.” Later that evening they danced together and Matt asked for her number!
A few weeks later on November 26th of 2013 they went on their first official date. They started on NoDa (North Davidson in Charlotte) to get drinks at the Blind Pig. Matt was a total gentleman that evening. It was raining out and he remembered to bring an umbrella and even came around the car to get Sarah so she didn’t have to get rained on. After that they headed to a magic show. Sarah says “the magic only continued after our first date. We enjoyed every minute we have shared together since.”
Matt & Sarah have been dating for almost 6 years now. They are living in Boston now. One day after walking together on the Harbor Walk, Matt surprised Sarah and asked her to be his wife. He got down on one knee overlooking the waterfront of Boston’s sunset skyline. Later that night they drank champagne, had dinner and dessert at a nearby rooftop restaurant. What a romantic day! Sarah & Matt’s day begins with a pretty epic story. As Matt was leaving the hotel to head to Board & Batten he got stuck in an elevator. He was there for over an hour and they even had to call the fire department to get him out!
To start the day Rebecca and I met both Sarah at Matt at Board & Batten. Sarah was finishing getting ready with her 11 bridesmaids! Then Matt arrived with his 8 groomsmen. There are so many people that love these two and you can see why.
I hung out with Sarah and her ladies while Rebecca went with Matt and his guys. Both groups were so much fun! I know I said before how perfect this day was and I really mean it. Sarah and Matt exude joy and it radiates around them.
After getting ready Sarah and Matt had their first look. This is one of my favorite first looks ever. They were smiling, laughing and talking. You could tell how excited they were to see each other. My favorite moment was when they stood facing each other with their eyes closed and their foreheads resting on one another. All day long you could see they were soaking up the moments, filled with gratitude.
Their ceremony took place inside in front of the massive fireplace at Board & Batten. They were married by Pastor Chris Lawson who was Sarah’s youth pastor. Sarah said that she and Matt were both so honored to have him marry them. The ceremony was filled with lots of happy tears and beautiful moments.
The day before their wedding a 40% chance of rain was predicted for all day in Lexington. The morning of their wedding the percentage of rain cleared but heavy cloud cover was predicted all day. We got so lucky and the sun peeked out a few times! My favorite was right after the ceremony there was a gorgeous golden glow across the field. We ran out for a few minutes of sunset photos and I love how they turned out.
Sarah and Matt picked the most amazing venue and vendors. Their planner Ashley from Charming Carolina made the day run seamlessly. They also had an amazing band playing for their reception called the Legacy Band. All of Sarah and Matt’s closet family and friends danced the night away and celebrated the love between these two.
We said goodbye to Sarah and Matt with a very cold sparkler exit with just their families and bridal party. That way the rest of the guests could keep on partying and dancing! I love the way this turned out.
Sarah and Matt thank you so much for trusting me to capture your memories. I had the best time at your wedding. You two deserve all the love and happiness that the world holds. I hope Paris is incredible and that you enjoy these pictures as much as I enjoyed taking them!
